MY NEW RADIO SHOW STARTS TONIGHT!

Feel my excitement, cuz yes, it's really goin' down tonight and every Sunday night thereafter - AUSTIN SURREAL with PUSHERMANIA on RADIO KAOS!

1pm - 1am tonight CENTRAL TIME!

You can tune in on the internet at www.kaosradioaustin.org

You can find it on Itunes and it'll be available on the Radio KAOS site and also iTunes as a podcast (please subscribe).

You can hear it on your phone, my G1 has an APP called "A Online Radio" and I searched for Radio KAOS on there and there it was. So surely your iphone or any smart phone can get it.

Whatever, listen to it. There's been a great void in my life since I left Damage Control 2 years ago and well, it feels really good to be back. Even tho it hasn't started yet. 8 hours from now tho it's really goin' down.

And it is NOT a straight rap show. I play some raps, but I am going to mix it up, free form, brilliant music for brilliant people. You dumb asses are invited to tune in too. Whatever, I hope y'all listen and enjoy it cuz radio is pretty much my favorite thing to do in the world.

And this first show gonna be jammin'. Thanks to the folks at Radio KAOS for the hook up.

And Austin, I mean, if you know, then you know, don't scream about it, but yeah you can hear it and suich, without the use of the internet. Possibly in your car or your bedroom or wherever. I can't say too much on this subject but its real and you need to figure it out.

But today the man Dr. Teeth and the ma'am Cherelle Renee done went and interviewed all sorts of artists from Texas, new and old and all relevant and jammin' for this special all Texas day on MTV JAMS. Go check it out and lemme know how it's goin'.

Black Milk KILLED Austin
Bun B Presents Houston For Haiti

TODAY! 4-8pm at Warehouse Live, Bun B is leading the charge in Houston in benefit of Haiti! We've all been watching the heart wrenching footage, and this is one way that you can help. Wish I could be there...

Friday night in Austin tho, it really went down. As evidenced by the video and photos below. Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate my birthday and that serious Detroit Hip-Hop. Also Austin, great openers, all that. What a night.

Word to N. Brown Clothing!

Cuz Black Milk freakin' ripped it with Daru Jones on the drums, a keyboard player and DJ Notion on them tables. IT WENT DOWN!

As you can see here.

DJ Notion!

My broz.

N. Brown in the plizzace.

G-Christ, Kwest and Black Mamba!

Parky P, my wife Melissa and Magda from Domy Books/Knitta Please

Dan from Domy Books, Emma and Mike

This note made its way onto the stage.

Richard Henry...

Looking awkward with the ladies...

Texas hip-hop legends Scuba Steve and Mic Dagger with friends.

Starla and Thomas

Big time writer dudes Thomas Fawcett and Austin Powell

Daru Jones, man I wish this was less blurry. Ugh. Drunk ass me.

And these youngstaz came out with their parents to this all ages show and I fully endorse this! YES WE CAN turn young people on to good music. Or maybe they are turning US on. Whatever, glad they were there.

What's next? Why, SXSW of course. You might not hear from me much between now and then.

Also I don't answer work questions on Twitter or Facebook AT ALL. So I am not ignoring YOU, I am ignoring all of you. THANKS!

The New Podcast! It's Up!
BLACK MILK LIVE IN AUSTIN FRIDAY!

It's true, Friday night, Black Milk live in Austin. One of Detroits finest. Come see him at Red 7 before he goes all Jay Z big and shit. It's really goin' down and it's my birthday.

Anyway, this podcast is entitled BLACK MILK IS PERFORMING IN AUSTIN WITH DARU JONES AT MY BIRTHDAY PARTY EVENT PODCAST FOR AUSTINSURREAL.COM

Brought to you by N. Brown Clothing.

So, "CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD BLACK MILK IS PERFORMING IN AUSTIN WITH DARU JONES AT MY BIRTHDAY PARTY EVENT PODCAST FOR AUSTINSURREAL.COM"

Cuz it's real. And yeah, I know I should drink less when I am putting these together. Also lemme post a disclaimer, I cannot mix, nor do I claim to mix. This is a podcast which is sort of like a radio show and I do this sort of radio show in response to the fact that radio sucks so bad. If I could just sit around and drink and listen to my radio, I wouldn't have to do this shit. I'd probably write more too.

I wrote a short piece, like 750 words, for the next SXSWorld Magazine and left it feeling as though I really need to start putting words on paper again. My original calling, sort of, that I haven't been able to nurture in recent years for economic reasons. I have two books "in the works," and I think I gotta finish those in 2010. Please hold me to it, also yell at me when I don't blog enough.

Did you happen to notice the spiffy new Do512 thang thang to the right of this text? They gave that to me so I can suggest upcoming shows in the Austin area. So, if you have a show coming to Austin, you need to login in at Do512.com and post that shit up. Seriously, its such a great tool. I use it all the time and am really happy to incorporate them into AustinSurreal. Thanks for thinking of me y'all. Anyway, yeah, use it. And I am semi-open for suggestions.

Here's the track list for the podcast. Please listen and enjoy and of course leave me some feedback in the comments section.

Black Milk - feat. Daru Jones on Drums - Keep Going
Jay Electronica - Exhibit C
Nneka feat. Jay Electronica - Walking (J. Period Remix)
Inara George - Bomb
Yuna - Random Awesome
Starting Teeth - Venom (Tanz Tanz Remix)
Western Civ. - I Am A Waterfall
Nachtmystium - Hellish Overdose
Interrobang - Gold Pillow
RJD2 feat. Kenna - Games You Can Win
Three-6-Mafia - Feel It - (Bird Peterson Remix)
Kamau feat. Invincible - Resistencia

And here's a pic of Daru Jones, rockin' them drums and that N. Brown Clothing and such at Peter Rosenbergs Noisemakers at CMJ. Will Peter be bringing the noise (makers) to SXSW????????

It Went Down In San Antonio! Super Soul Shakedown!
Black Milk Live in Austin This Friday!

Maaaaaaaaaan this is one hell of a way to start out 2010, with some seriously soulful hip-hop realness.

As opposed to blog hop.

Anyway, man, IT WENT DOWN and this Friday night IT'S GOIN' DOWN!

Friday night, if you live in Austin, or within driving distance of Austin, and you love real hip-hop, as opposed to blog hop, then come join me at my lil ol' birthday party thang thang at Red 7 and see BLACK MILK (and more) LIVE IN CONCERT!

Presented by N. Brown Clothing, Daru Jones on the drums, DJ Notion on them turntables, it gone be an event, real tweet, I mean talk.

But this past weekend I headed on down to San Antonio for some family love, and got to check out MOJOE live at the Limelight for SUPER SOUL SHAKEDOWN! It's a quarterly soul dance party that just kills. Check the flicks. One of the nicest crowds I have seen in a minute. I mean a month.

Not a huge place, but a nice size and it was PACKED!

Mojoe of course is one of my favorite groups hands down. They are a full on hip-hop band, not just a couple of MCs who threw together a few people behind them, this is a real band.

And they do it so well. For real. I had this vision not too long ago for a whole new movement coming out of Texas, where the real skilled envelope pushers in Texas hip-hop all get it together and hit the world with some of the finest sounds coming out of anywhere but Detroit and I think that's gonna have to happen soon. I am really tired of the truly dope being overlooked man. Seriously.

It's time to put in that work. Sick of this other shit. Blog hop and shit. (I am typing this as I hear Dizzee Rascal play "Flex" on BBC Radio 1 pon di internet, and no, I don't mean Mad Cobra, I mean the Dallas jam. Word to my brother Mr. Rogers.)

Anyhoos, DJ Donnie Dee is a madman on them turntables.

And I REALLY love San Antonio. It's a gem of a city. People just don't know.

I always knew it was dope but I haven't been to a hip-hop show, or any show there really, in some time.

I mean I saw Invincible last year at an art space down there, but haven't been to an SA club in ages.

I also haven't blogged in ages, but plan to more often in 2010. I think I said that in 2009, I dunno. This real world shit...

I know you feel me. Anyway, I slacked on the crowd shots, cuz I was so enamored with the jams.

I saw more dope grafitti in one day in San Antonio than I have in the last year in Austin. No disrespect to Austin graf writers, maybe I don't know where to look these days, but man I was riding around SA like DAMN!

Yeah, San Antonio got me a lil open.

And every club in SA should have a painting like this hanging prominently. This is RAM> He owned Taco Land for many years which was and I think still is one of the main places for new bands to play. I was there a bunch of times in the early 90's. It was like indie Heaven and Ram really supported music more than almost anyone I ever met. Dude was a champ. I don't know the whole story, but from what I heard, a few years back a dude ran up in the club and shot him dead, at point blank range. I don't even know if there was a reason, I just heard dude was crazy. And it's a damn shame.

SMH at the world, but his memory wil never die. He meant a lot to San Antonio and to every band that ever passed through his club and played on his stage. A beautiful person if there ever was one.

Anyway, come see Black Milk on Friday. I'm almost 40 and I'm going to neeeeeeeeeed you to help me feel better about myself.

Major SXSW Hip-Hop Announcements coming soon. If you did not apply, it is way too late. But um, plenty did and it's REALLY GOIN' DOWN!

MOJOE Saturday Night in San Antonio!

If you are in San Antonio lets kick it.

Lil Wayne Live in Austin This Wed. 1/6
Black Milk is playing my Birthday Party 1/15!

MAYNE HOLD UP! Someone forgot to tell someone that January is supposed to be a slow month for shows in Austin. Cuz here's two great ones!

Yessirrrrrr Lil Wayne returns to Austin, to the Travis County Expo Center to be exact, this Wednesday night January 6th. Last time he was in town it was one of the biggest turn outs for a rap show ever in Austin. This time around expect no less as after this show, we may not see Wayne in concert for a year. What with being locked up in NYC and all.

Get Your Tickets NOW on GetTix.net They WILL SELL OUT!

Prices range from $42.50 - $128.00

Rumor has it that some of the Young Money camp will be in the building. I doubt that means Drake, cuz I am sure they would be hyping that, but maybe we will see Nicki Minaj.

And San Antonio's own KYLE LEE will be performing, but I have no idea who else is on the show. Who needs anyone else, probably be best if its just Wayne anyway.

That being said, I'ma be out there.

Then, my birthday is January 16th and N. Brown Clothing is throwing me a party on FRIDAY JAN. 15TH with one of my current favorite rapper/producers - BLACK MILK!

CLICK HERE TO GET FAMILIAR WITH BLACK MILK.

Man this is gonna be a night to remember, it deserves its own post for sure, but I wanted to put this flyer up under Lil Wayne cuz you know, all the kids love Lil Wayne, but SHOULD ALSO KNOW ABOUT THAT BLACK MILK! And the fact that Detroit is the current Hip-Hop MECCA. Man, look for more Detroit hip-hop to hit Austin, ohhhhh round about SXSW. I cannot wait to start announcing some of the SXSW hip-hop shows we have lined up for y'all.

If you have not applied, then you are too late to get a performance but I hope that no matter who you are or where you are from, you are considering coming down to Austin March 17-21 cuz it is at that point at which IT IS REALLY GOIN' DOWN. And such...

Some thangs to watch over them Holidaze

First of all check out the new video from MOJOE out of San Antonio featuring Bavu Blakes from Austin, but on the way to Los Angeles very soon - "A Strange Revival."

Mojoe "Strange Revival" ft. Bavu Blakes VIDEO Dookie Vizion Productions from The 54 Reality Show on Vimeo.

Dope ass song and video for sure and it was directed by my brothers at Dookie Vision Productions, aka Crew 54. Straight up man, Central Texas has a lot to offer and I think that 2010 is going to be big for us. That real, genuine, hip-hop.

Soulful, Texas, Real.

Also my man Ruben Cantu sent me a short film he produced for the Nikon Festival. It is some sort of contest, Ashton Kucher is behind it, um lemme let Ruben tell you:

"Good news though! Drama made it into the Nikon fest, and as of yesterday it was one of the top 10 films in contention. We created the site www.votedrama.com to get people to find out and view the film. Once they did they could vote for it (5 stars)

We were selected out of 1000+ submissions worldwide and we are fighting for 2 prizes.

The grand prize is the judges award, not affected by views or votes. This is solely their discretion. That winner gets 100k. The rest get to fight for the votes from the audience and the winner gets 25k. So just in case we don't get the judges award, we would like to walk away with the audience award.

As of right now, we have about 2-300 votes. But the leader has like 700. I am on a massive promotions campaign trying to get this film to number 1. Yesterday we were number 3 and today outside of the top 10. Its highly competitive and we have till Jan 13th until they announce the winner.

If we win, we can keep making films in Austin, if not, we're still broke trying to make it. If you can lend a hand and post it on your blog we would be mad grateful. We have Austin Cipher in the credits on the longer version and also First Class Fresh another local hip hop group."

Suffice it to say I support my man and his efforts, check out the film and please go vote!

Then below check out a local Austin television show called Powerhouse TV. They come on every week and I am going to try and remember to post the show every week as they give a great look at some of the people really making it happen in Texas rap these days. peep it out!

TX Power House TV - Episode 9 from Texas Power House TV on Vimeo.

And Happy Holidaze! I may or may not be back in the next couple of days.

Holidaze Parties Really Went DOWN!

They say life is just a party, and I fill dat, I rilly do.

Cuz I tend to party. Here's some pics from this past weekend and in the end a few from last week. Basically we will start with photos from Friday night at the Red Bull 45 event in Houston. Then some flicks from The Friends Not Family Holiday Event here in Austin, and then round things up with some flicks from the SEA Awards Nominees party last week here in Austin. I done forgot that I had them flicks on my camera.

Anyhoo....

B-Boy Craig hosted the Red Bull 45 event where The Are, DJ Sun, Ceeplus, Brett Koshkin and John Doe all spun 45 vinyl all night.

Brett Koshkin

DJ Sun and Phillip Marshall

The Are seen here with Sess

DJ Cut Chemist

This was one event where I felt as though it was ok to watch the DJs. And possibly learn something. Cut Chemist headlined and did this one turntable mix set that was absolutely flawless. I am not the most technically adept dude in the world but lemme try to explain this.

Basically he was playing all 45s, on one turntable that he had run through some sort of loop pedal, that he worked with his foot. He would put a record on, spin it till the break, loop the break, lay some cuts, take the record off as the loop played, scratch over the loop, loop the current record and so on and so forth and I mean, dude did not miss a beat. Shit was brilliant.

Before that though, the DJ's all were stationed in different corners of the room. Each with a 2 turntable set up. They spun records round robin style all night, and everyone came with their own brand of genius. Funk, soul, r&b, hip-hop, rock, club music, 80's jams... there were NO boundaries. And everything was played on vinyl.

Which if you did not know, SOUNDS WAY BETTER THAN THAT MP3 ASS BULLSHIT.

Anyway...

The history as it relates to MattSoReal, Houston music, hip-hop in general and more that is represented in this photo is immeasurable. DJ Cipher, Petu and Ric Edwards coming with that Phunky Phat Phlava.

And this pic here as well. You may know DJ Wiz as the DJ for Aesop Rock, I know him as a member of Def IV and a Houston Hip-Hop PIONEER.

Jenny & Tresa

Jennifer from Premium Goods and Melesa!

Kam & Eric

Love was in the air. Word up Stephanie and Crystal!

And here's the DJ's

So yeah, Friday was quite the whirlwind. Then Saturday it was a bit of family Christmas in Houston then back to Austin for the Friends Not Family Christmas Party on Sunday.

When we arrived at The Mohawk, they had a real wrestling match going off outside!

Shit had me trippin'. It was really real. When did wrestling go ironic? (Sorry I couldn't resist. No hipster hate here)

Ann from theSouthernShift.com came thru, along with my bro N. Brown from N. Brown Clothing.

I made a rule that there would no rapping at this particular event, but the bear trumped me and started a cipher.

Tracie and Friends!

Lil J of Da COD and friend

D. George, Melissa and Friends!

James Dean and his ladyfriend

BIG JD IN THE HOUSE!

Julia Ervin acting fabulous and also Hollywood as if she was on a runway, but really she just got in from Moscow and came for a drink real talk. But yeah, fabulous.

Paul Minor with allllll the ladies!

Lowkey and Gangsta Boo Barbie with more ladies!

Lolo and Doc Holiday!

Melissa and System D128!

Me, Lolo and the mystery man, Tosin.

Meriah, Laura aka Parky P and Samantha

Mod Plexi was in the house on the sponsor tip

Richard Henry manned the decks for like 75% of the night. We loaded all of my holiday jams into his Serato and well, every time I got near that fucking thing it would fuckt he fuckup. Plus MP3s sound like shit so I was getting super pissed every song so he pretty much saved the day and killed it.

Then I killed the whole vibe when he did a jammin' hip-hop set and I played Nat King Cole's Christmas Song, slowed way down.

Cuz as I have stated, I don't know how to do all that computer bullshit. When I am elected President of the United States MP3s will be illegal and vinyl will make a radical come back. Fo dat ass, cuz I have PRIORITIES.

Robert Gabriel and Tosin. Edited Tosin's face cuz he be trippin' all the time, trying to remain a mystery.

The women of So, Like, Yeah also do not want to be exposed. But their misfortune cookies were a huge hit. Mine said "The monkeys know." Which I already knew.

Anyway yeah man that party really went down like a mahfucka, mahfuckas.

A week or so back though, there was a lil get together for all of the Austin nominees to the SEA Awards. I am nominated for Journalist/Photographer of the year even tho I haven't written shit of any merit in years and my photos are a total mess. But I am totally honored. And there's some great folks from ATX nominated this year so go vote and look out for your peoples!

Young Spinna Killin' it.

Rachel Rachel

Staci Russell is set to have a HUGE 2010, watch. Mark my words it's bout to go down.

Rachel, Lolo and Staci in full effect!

DJ Grip in the house

Yeah so, it really went down.

I want to have another holiday mix for y'all before this damn holiday is over. If I don't check in before then, have yourself a Merry little Christmas and a Happy New Year and a wonderful Kwanzaa and hoping your Hannukah was wonderful too.

Also the winter solstice, hope you made it through.

Cut Chemist is headlining, Ceeplus Badknives is opening and DJ Sun, The Are, DJ John Doe and Brett Koshkin are all going head to head, spinning the platters and such.

Seems like a fun night to me, I am all about keeping it real, and also about DJ's who play real vinyl. I assume this one is gonna get DEEP! DJ Sun is one of the most legendary DJ's in Texas, The ARE is one of the most legendary producers/record diggers in Texas, Brett Koshkin is one of the best classic soul DJ's I have heard in recent years, if not the best, and honestly I am not familiar with John Doe, but he is like in the mix with straight up Houston royalty, so he has to be dope.

So the event is this Friday Night, Dec. 18th at Warehouse Live, 813 St. Emanuel St. in HOUSTON. Doors at 8 pm and tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door.

But yoooooou can win tickets RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW! And come party with some real jams before the holidaze really kick in.

All you have to do is email me at austinsurreal@gmail.com and send me a jpg, gif or youtube link to your favorite song ON 45. I know you can find a pic or a youtube clip of a favorite record of yours spinning.

First 50 responses with proper photos will get two tickets to the event. You will be on a guest list and will pick your tickets up at the door night of the event.

Got it? Well get to it! Feel free to tweet about this contest too! In fact, I would appreciate if you would do just that!

See you there!
