FREE MIX: Mellow Out It's Christmastime

O.K. So it's corny as shit, but my analog ass got a hold of some Virtual DJ program, and well I was higher than that Star of That Nativity the other night and well, started messing with it. Realizing that even with a machine that matches beats for you, I'll never be much of a mixer, I remembered it was Christmastime so I busted out the Christmas crate (that's what we newly digital dudes call a folder full of mp3's on our computer now and such).

I've got a ton of Christmas music and am available to spin at your holiday parties. But I don't take requests and sometimes the songs I play will be played to make tyou think, rather than dance. SO if that sounds appealing to you PayPal me a deposit and lets get this shit poppin'.

Anyway this mix is of some mellow, I guess you would say indie rock type shit. I don't know. Some was from John Peel's Christmas Special's at Peel Acres (I'm not advocating stealing but if you have SLSK or Limewire you might want to do yourself a favor and search "John Peel Christmas" you'll find some really cool shit that probably isn't available for purchase anyway). Anyway...

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THIS XXXCLUSIVE MIX BY MATT SOREAL ENTITLED "MELLOW OUT IT'S CHRISTMASTIME."

You don't have to like it, but you've gotta respect it.

And well this is the first of a series. I'm thinking "Get Funky It's Christmastime" will pop up in the next few weeks. "Smoked Out Christmas" is one that's gonna be a lot of fun, but I gotta holler at Cosmo Baker about the rights to the name. "Gabber Christmas" might happen if I can find all my old Happy Hardcore Christmas tunes.

And then of course I'm considering turning the viirtual decks over to DJ Eva and MC Elena for a "Childs Garden of Christmas" mix. They already have Magic 95.5 - all Christmas Music All The Time, on on the radio in their room.

Oh Joyous Noel. It's Christmas. Mellow out. Don't let the economy freak you out. Fuck it, jam free music.

Also, don't be trippin' on these fine selections...

And this would be the cover of this mix if it wasn't already copyrighted and if the mix wasn't already named "Mellow Out It's Christmas." "I'll Be Stoned for Christmas" coming soon, heads.

Also here's the tracklist. Don't ask me why I put Dead Moon on in the middle to harsh your mellow.

Camera Obscura - Little Donkey (Live from Peel Acres)
Melys - Silent Night (Live from Peel Acres)
Willie Nelson - Pretty Papers
Ella Fitzgerald - God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen
Low - Little Drummer Boy
Dead Moon - Christmas Rush
Beat Happening - Christmas Nuhs
Belle & Sebastian - Oh Little Town of Bethlehem
John Lennon - Happy Christmas (War is Over)
James Brown - Signs of Christmas
Elvis Presley - Peace in the Valley

Also I guess it's not all indie rock. Just jam it and lemme know if you want some more. I got you. You don't HAVE to jam Magic 95.5 all day, like me.

OMG OMG OMG IT WENT DOWN!!!!
Sister Nancy - Mossman Soundsystem -
Grimy Styles & Queen Majesty
Total Nother Level Shit

I mean for real though. It was really on that whole other level. It's crazy man. We gave out a couple hundred tickets and just before the show my boy Rufus was like "Man if we don't get 100 paid we are gonna be screwed." And I looked at him and said "Maaaaan, we'll get 100 paid, don't even trip." I was confident of that, but really had no idea that in the end over 600 people would pass through them doors to celebrate the realness that IS!

SISTER NANCY!!!! Most incredible voice...

And QUEEN MAJESTY! Seriously one of the finest reggae DJ's I know in this current day and time. The girl is flawless. She killed it from 9 - 10 p.m. when the folks were just starting to trickle in and then DESTROYED IT from like 12:30 - 2:00 a.m. and kept 90% of the crowd there all night.

Dr. Dubbist!

My dude Pimpin' Pen said the whole night was, "crunk." That means good. Like a hype, goodness.

Grimy Styles pulled out selections from their entire repertiore (sp?) andjust blew fools tits backwards.

Martin.

Matt.

Dr. Dubbist.

Chris.

Just straight happy...

Sun-Jue & Erica keeping it real. MY PEOPLE!

Clara holding it down.

Melissa and Keith Plocek chillin'. WHERE HATH YOU BEEN KEITH?

Rufus.

Well anyway man, the night was so magical. Crowd wise it could not be fucked with. Old folks. Young folks. Middlin' folks. All races. All um, everything. From squares like myself to hippies to tattoed folk to the um, black dude with blonde spiky hair, to um, man well, just everybody came through last night. I was floored and everyone on that stage made sure everyone went home happy.

Sister Nancy's voice could light Austin for months. Like, the power coming out of that mouth is just immeasurable. I stood up front for quite some time, just mesmirized by this woman.

She incomparable.

I mean utterly incredible.

So, yeah man, I'ma have to do more reggae shows.

In the yard at The Scoot. WHAT A STAGE!

Nice vibes y'all. Big thanks to everyone involved and to everyone who came out!

Queen Majesty shut the place down and kept the crowd STRAIGHT VIBIN'!

How nice. Let's do it again sometime. Enjoy the um, Thanksgiving day festivities and hopefully right after that I'll have some whole new events to announce.

The AustinSurreal/Platypus Promo/MongoLikeShin Christmas Party is gonna be a motherfunky KILLER. So be ready. Time, place, date, etc TBA Sooninsh.

Enjoy your Monday.

Nice & Smooth, Black Sheep and Orgone LIVE in Houston!

Word to Scion. See the same show tonight at the Parish and let me tell you this, it's worth it. You def don't need to go see Digable Planets or whatever else is happening tonight. THIS IS THE SHOW. Ladybug is pretty and all but Greg Nice has that energy and Black Sheep and Nice & Smooth have more CLASSICS than you remember, and of course Orgone kills it.

(HEADS UP MIDWEST! Bun B is coming to your city with Orgone backing him and YOU do not want to miss this!!! Chicago, Minneapolis, Columbus and one other city I can't remember in mid-December. I plan on hitting the Chi show and reuniting with all my folks out there!)

Anyway here's the part you like.

Dres of the Black Sheep. Mista Lawnge was nowhere to be seen, except on the flyer...

But who gives a shit. Anyway man, Dres came out and killed it.

And of course Orgone blew me right out the water.

My man kept it LIVE!

And Greg Nice solidified himself as one of the top performers in hip-hop TO THIS DAY!

Dude was running in the crowd.

Working the hell out of the band.

Dancing with all the ladies, and making every song like 10 minute long jams.

Smooth B!

They were on for over an hour. Killing it.

Bun B came out. Did you know that Greg Nice and Pimp C recorded a song together a week before Pimp C died. Greg says he is going to be on our Damage Control 1 year anniversary Pimp C Tribute in December. Like whoa. I neeed to hear that one.

Hip-Hop Junkies.

Lookit these LEGENDS!

The lovely Kam, Mark and Bone

And more Hip-Hop Junkies. Wow.

Anyway Austin, if you don't see this show tonight YOU ARE TRIPPIN'. I drove home to Austin and got in at 5 a.m. and woke up at 7 a.m. so I might not make it tonight. But trust me, YOU should.
