Hip-Hop This Weekend in AUSTIN!

As we all sit here and wait for SXSW to finally be upon us, there's plenty to do in the meantime.

Including three hip-hop shows Friday night (that I know of at least), and the Grand Opening of the NICE KICKS store on the Drag Saturday.

If ya don't know, Nice Kicks is a website devoted to the Sneaker Head lifestyle. And it's based right here in Austin. My man Matt is opening a physical store, at 2815 Guadalupe St. And Bun B and DJ Clark Kent will be in the place for this momentous opening! Legends! Word is another legend, Dante Ross will be in the house as well. Are you ready for this???

I'm not even a sneaker head and I'm excited for it. I buy "kicks" once every two years I think, so if anyone wants to help me step my game up (Like the man Dante did quite recently on the Pro Keds tip) I'M WITH IT.

And it's safe bet some of these cats will be passing through as well...

Friday night there's a special Cool Kids show at The Mohawk. It's the Huston-Tillotson Homecoming party, but a limited number of tickets are available HERE.

No flyer for that one, but same night we have P.O.S., Dessa and Astronautilus around the corner at Red 7. Bring your Cool Kids ticket stub for discount admission to this show!

POS has become one of my favorite rappers in the past year or so. That last album was insane.

And then of course, AMPLIVE will be DJing at the Beauty Bar after the Zion I performance at Stubb's. They are opening up for Rebelution at Stubb's and then Amp gone go wreck the decks.

SXSW Hip-Hop Line Up
And Such

OK So here's what we have so far. ALL INFORMATION SUBJECT TO CHANGE. Times can change, groups can drop out, some may be added, um, things change and even though its right around the corner, it's also still a month away. I mean, less than a month. Yeah, I'm losing it a bit over here SO DON'T COME ROUND TRIPPIN' ON ME.

And you can see the whole schedule of over 1800 musical entities on www.sxsw.com of course, but I like to break down the hip-hop and the what have you that I think you may like, in one post. Hope to see you in Austin March 17 - 21.

You can see below what I have been doing lately, as opposed to say, blogging on the regular. Not much to say til now. (Sitting at my desk, yelled at an agent today, got yelled at by a manager, yelled back, typed a lot, worried about carpal tunnel syndrome, listened to 200 bands today, etc. That'd be boring for you.)

Anyway here's the list as it stands at the moment. Things will change but apparently, it's really goin' down...

Rest In Peace Flavia Roncelli
One of my favorite friends...

Got online to do the radio show, that you may or may not be hearing right now (12:05 a.m. Monday Feb. 15th), checked my email and found out that one of my greatest friends has passed away.

Rest in Peace Flavia Roncelli

These pics are from when I last saw her, November of last year in Amsterdam on my way to Den Haag. I was supposed to get picked up at the airport and driven to the Crossing Border Festival, but I decided to go into the city and see Flavia.

I lived in Amsterdam in 1996, and I met her as we both were promoting shows. I didn't know too many people at the time and when we met she was like "Well lets go." She took me all over Amsterdam and quickly became one of my best friends.

And we always stayed in touch. This is us in like 2006 in Vondel Park when I was in Amsterdam with DJ Chill and Rapid Ric. She told me like 20 times how I still looked the same as ten years before, only fat. One of the true greats. She leaves behind her husband Kevin and daughter Isotta and a whole lot of people the world over. I'm floored.

Thinking about how I've lost three incredibly close friends to cancer in the past three years. Flavia, Brian Bartholomew (seen below) and Steve Spapperi. Come on now. No More...

MY NEW RADIO SHOW STARTS TONIGHT!

Feel my excitement, cuz yes, it's really goin' down tonight and every Sunday night thereafter - AUSTIN SURREAL with PUSHERMANIA on RADIO KAOS!

1pm - 1am tonight CENTRAL TIME!

You can tune in on the internet at www.kaosradioaustin.org

You can find it on Itunes and it'll be available on the Radio KAOS site and also iTunes as a podcast (please subscribe).

You can hear it on your phone, my G1 has an APP called "A Online Radio" and I searched for Radio KAOS on there and there it was. So surely your iphone or any smart phone can get it.

Whatever, listen to it. There's been a great void in my life since I left Damage Control 2 years ago and well, it feels really good to be back. Even tho it hasn't started yet. 8 hours from now tho it's really goin' down.

And it is NOT a straight rap show. I play some raps, but I am going to mix it up, free form, brilliant music for brilliant people. You dumb asses are invited to tune in too. Whatever, I hope y'all listen and enjoy it cuz radio is pretty much my favorite thing to do in the world.

And this first show gonna be jammin'. Thanks to the folks at Radio KAOS for the hook up.

And Austin, I mean, if you know, then you know, don't scream about it, but yeah you can hear it and suich, without the use of the internet. Possibly in your car or your bedroom or wherever. I can't say too much on this subject but its real and you need to figure it out.

It's #texasday !!!

Yeah man not too much to post on the subject myself cuz I ain't got no MTV Jams (though I'd love it if one of y'all would put it on Justin.tv and discreetly let me know). But today the man Dr. Teeth and the ma'am Cherelle Renee done went and interviewed all sorts of artists from Texas, new and old and all relevant and jammin' for this special all Texas day on MTV JAMS. Go check it out and lemme know how it's goin'.
