ARABIC RAP IS THE NEW JUMP OFF!

MAYNE IT WENT DOWN! We also just moved into our Austin house, and are in the process of moving in and such, so I can't write now. Must sort things and sit in my new garage and wonder why I have so many cdrs with one rap song on them and somehow they followed me, they wouldn't just stay behind, or leave, or throw themselves out, no they ended up in boxes in my garage, along with every magazine I have read in the past ten years, also not sure why they made it. Also records. And VHS tapes. And such.

So yeah, full review forthcoming but suffice it to say, ARABIC RAP IS THE NEW JUMP OFF! At least the way Dam and Mohammad Al Farra do it. Word to them.

You don't understand the realness of the situation at hand.

Dred Skott are very important. Austin, get ready for the revolution.

Just tryin; to live as they say.

THIS WEEK! LIVE HIP HOP IN AUSTIN & HOUSTON!
DAM and Mohammad Al-Farra from PR
Palestinian Hip Hop for the First Time in Texas!

And it's serious. Check out these videos, and seriously, I don't normally beg people to come out to my shows, but this one means a lot to me. I need each one to teach one and spread the word about this magnanimous event. Austin on Thursday and Houston on Friday.

People keep talking about the resurgence of "conscious" hip hop, well, come get conscious. Party, learn something, support these brilliant artists / activists / humanitarians.

Show begins promptly at 8 p.m. on the outdoor stage at The Scoot Inn and goes till 11 p.m. After 11 p.m. DJ Rhyme and Rapid Ric will spin inside the Scoot Inn for an after party / meet and greet with the artists from Palestine.

Those of y'all who want to see Z-Ro on Thursday night can easily see both shows. You already know Z-Ro won't be on stage before 1 a.m. (I assume) soooooooo, you could presumably see two of the greatest rap shows you'll see all year, in one night, in one city. Seriously, if you are reading this and are in Austin or Houston or maybe within driving distance of either city, I really need you to come out and support.

Who's The Terrorist?

And for more background, I grabbed this from The Guardian:

We're not celebrating Israel's anniversary...

The Guardian, Wednesday April 30 2008

This article appeared in the Guardian on Wednesday April 30 2008 on p33 of the Leaders & reply section. It was last updated at 12:44 on April 30 2008...

In May, Jewish organisations will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the state of Israel. This is understandable in the context of centuries of persecution culminating in the Holocaust. Nevertheless, we are Jews who will not be celebrating. Surely it is now time to acknowledge the narrative of the other, the price paid by another people for European anti-semitism and Hitler's genocidal policies. As Edward Said emphasised, what the Holocaust is to the Jews, the Naqba is to the Palestinians.

In April 1948, the same month as the infamous massacre at Deir Yassin and the mortar attack on Palestinian civilians in Haifa's market square, Plan Dalet was put into operation. This authorised the destruction of Palestinian villages and the expulsion of the indigenous population outside the borders of the state. We will not be celebrating.

In July 1948, 70,000 Palestinians were driven from their homes in Lydda and Ramleh in the heat of the summer with no food or water. Hundreds died. It was known as the Death March. We will not be celebrating.

In all, 750,000 Palestinians became refugees. Some 400 villages were wiped off the map. That did not end the ethnic cleansing. Thousands of Palestinians (Israeli citizens) were expelled from the Galilee in 1956. Many thousands more when Israel occupied the West Bank and Gaza. Under international law and sanctioned by UN resolution 194, refugees from war have a right to return or compensation. Israel has never accepted that right. We will not be celebrating.

We cannot celebrate the birthday of a state founded on terrorism, massacres and the dispossession of another people from their land. We cannot celebrate the birthday of a state that even now engages in ethnic cleansing, that violates international law, that is inflicting a monstrous collective punishment on the civilian population of Gaza and that continues to deny to Palestinians their human rights and national aspirations.

We will celebrate when Arab and Jew live as equals in a peaceful Middle East.

David Banner Live at SXSW 2008!
Photos of Han Bennink and Peter Brotzmann Live in Houston!

COURTESY OF LUXURY MINDZ!!!!

THANKS TO OG!!!

-----------------------------------

Sitting on the bench outside diverse works.
Smoking a joint.
Watching some banners blowing in the wind.
About to drink wine and see Han Bennink and Peter Brotzmann again.
Theres no humidity whatsoever.
Houston feels strange.
It looks strange.
The sunset fading through the haze and the sky is literally purple like how they say in the rap songs.

Last night they tore the roof off the oversold Victory Grill in Austin. Tonight they upped the ante tenfold and played with more fervor and intense love for the art than I've ever seen either play before in any combination.

Han on the floor with that long 2x4 and a cymbal, Peter in the back, blowing his soul straight into the sky.

Two different worlds, two completely different nights in two completely different cities, and I thank God that I was able to bear witness.

Utter brilliance.

There is no justice

But we already knew that shit.

Rest in Peace Sean Bell, and to his family, we will keep you in our prayers.

Seriously though, WTF???

From the New York Times: "The detectives were found not guilty on all felony and misdemeanor charges in the November 2006 death of Sean Bell, who died in a hail of 50 police bullets outside a club in Queens."

If the dude wasn't committing a rape or murder at that very moment, then I don't see why he needed to be shot. And I definitely don't see why he had to go down in a hail of 50 bullets????

Come on now man. If I wasn't so fat and lazy I'd start a motherfucking riot in this hoe. Also I'm in Austin. But shit man, shit like this reminds me that I was supposed to be born in Amsterdam. Or Mars. Or not at all. This world makes me cry.

Working on that podcast

Just need to get up in them Dew Music Studios, and I will, I PROMISE. If it rains in Austin today, it's goin' down. If not, I'm gonna go drink beer in the grass. We shall see.
