MAYNE HOLD UP! I done told you already that I've had server problems, and this is why all these posts are so late and being hastily thrown up on a Sunday but hey, they are important none the less and got to reach the people and such and so it shall be and here we go again.

This whole day, REALLY WENT DOWN!

From Trae's in store at Nice Kicks, to Bavu's listening session just down the street at Complete Clothing, to the concert that night at Red 7, suffice it to say, IT WENT DOWN. As evidenced by these photos.


A veritable who's who of the Austin rap illuminati came out to all these place to rep for two of the best our state hath ever produced unto the rap game. Bavu and Trae.


Like me and Sascha, we came out for all that shit.


Crew 54 was in the house getting the story on the new forthcoming SANCT EP. Bavu Blakes, with all the production handled by Reggie Coby. I've been jammin' the hell out of it for a few weeks now. Wait for it. Here it comes.


Trae, Pyrexx, Rod C, Yung Quis, EZ, Show, Clip and more came out to check Bavu en route to their show that night. Down there by the campus. Seen here with JBro of Riders Against The Storm!

Anyhow it really went down over there. It was about 100 degrees on the street and 120 in the store and we drank Lone Star beers both inside and outside the store. I assume its not legal to pound Lone Stars out there on Guadalupe. I mean, I assume way after the fact,but I assume.

Red 7 was crunk as hell on this particular night.

Kansas City's own XV opened the show. Making him one of three Kansas City rappers/rap groups currently on the blog right now (Ces Cru, Mac Lethal)


I always loved Kansas City. And I love that XV really does his own thing.




Word to Rich the Factor


Speaking of a street king, H-Town's Street King Trae tha Truth went the fuck off on this particular night.


Crazy enough he gave a similar show to what he did in Houston only weeks before. Only in Houston he had a full band, guests like Lupe Fiasco and Waka Flocka (and way more) and his whole hometown on his back. In Austin he had a rockin' Red 7 and that was about it. Still and all, he did a genuinely real show.

Which is all I ask for.


Jayton came out and wrecked of course, with Rod C.




Rapid Ric worked the turntables.


Pyrexx came out and wrecked that "Strapped Up"


And Trae just really held it down.


And called the whole crowd up on stage.






And it got crazy.




Trae even stayed way past 2am, signing everyones posters and CDs and man I can't tell you how dope it was to see Trae rock Red 7 on his Street King tour. Word up. Keep it coming.

Mac Lethal + Ces Cru Live in Austin

OK This show was a couple weeks back as well. I done told you, I had server issues so it took a while. Man, I always liked Mac Lethal, he's dope and a real hustler, but tonight I was super stoked to finally see Ces Cru/ PersephOne told me about them some time ago and I been checking things here and there. Always thought they were dope. Tonight I got to finally see them. Bonus. Mac Lethal and Ces Cru at Antone's on a Saturday night.

Wheelchair Sports Camp Live at Red 7!

Maaaan this show happened like 2 weeks ago. Sorry for being so tardy on the posts but I had some server issues and I just couldn't get anything to work right. Anyway its all fixed so I'm playing catch up.


This show here was dope though. My homeys from Denver, Wheelchair Sports Camp came through Austin on a little southern tour on which they were not arrested for neither graffiti, nor marijuana. Unlike the last time.

ANYHOO!


Custom Hi-V (As in Custom High Five) opened the show.




And Johnny Sarkis broke out the beer bong, and broke the ice on the night, so to speak, in a major way.




Sow was super diverse with Kill City coming in second.






With the raps, no beer bong.


Also no water bong, just some joints. See its legal out there in Colorado so these folks just don't regard our laws as some of us might.


Team WCSC - Ronin


This band from San Antonio, Collective Dreams, played a set on the inside stage. I just kind of stumbled upon them, and while the name might not sound like anything I'd really ever be interested in, in a band, these dudes actually do jam.


What was once an instrumental group, they done went and got this dude Honeyson, who is also from San Antonio and does his own solo type weird out electro jams, to sing and well, I need to see these guys again. I felt like they were really onto something, but like at that point my mind was really zorched (#Colorado)


But I mean yeah seriously they jammed pretty hard and I want to see what the hell it do down in San Antonio sometime soon.

MVSCLZ came on right before Wheelchair Sports Camp.




I done told you this show went in a lot of different directions.


Wheelchair Sports Camp finished off the night with a set of their jams, and their remixes/covers of fun hip-hop jams. Kalyn's version of Salt N Pepa's "None of Your Business" is a serious party rocker.




Anyway it was 2 weeks ago but it was super fun.

Help the new Jungle Brothers album get made!

My good friend David Willams worked closely with the Jungle Brothers back in the day. He's a Texas dude you may remember from Decadent Dub Team, and if you live in Austin and are on the scene, you've probably been to a show where he was running sound and doing a damn good job at it.

Anyway, last year he fell on some medical emergencies, and we all know what happens when artistic types fall on medical emergencies, and its not pretty. Anyway, the Jungle Brothers are back, and have started work on their new album, which as you know is something that needs to happen, and they need a little help to get it done. Mostly to get David's equipment back that he had to pawn to pay his medical bills and to get him in the studio with the guys.



So he set up a Kickstarter - which is located here - and is trying to raise money to make this happen.

It's as noble a pursuit as any in these daze and times and I'd love to see him get some support on this.

OK So it's from January of 1994 and the total fuckin' wigger is me. I ADMIT THAT. But yeah, you should hear this. One must know that I have every radio show I have ever done, somewhere in some format. Cassettes and MP3s mostly. And well, this was from January of 1994, just a couple weeks before I moved to New York City for a year. It's the beginning of (the end) of my old radio show Droppin' Bombs Strictly Hip-Hop that I did for 3 years on KPFT with Rad Richard, DJ Cipher, GT (Mayne), Baby Gramps and more. This particular one is me and Lord Vishnu on the mic and the mix respectively and well we explain all that you just have to hear this. I am uploading it cuz its me talm bout how bewildered I was with one of the greatest DJs in the world the first time I ever saw him, and remain to be to this day.





Listen to this shit. Shout outs to DJ Styles and the Odd Squad, Cipher, Maadhouse, um, basically a whole lot of my Houston hip-hop family from this era. Also talm bout one of GT (Mayne)'s original club nights at a joint called Goats Head Soup. This is just after the Soul Shack shut down, but I assume you already knew that. Long live the Hip-Hop Coffee Shop and the time Lord Vishnu, CeePlus and I done had in those daze. Among others. There's so much more I could say but just listen to the above and make fun of me at will, I don't give a shit. Those were, as they say, the daze.

And DJ Sun is still one of the true greats.
